Zoo News
Baby Monkey
Hunter Valley Zoo has recently celebrated the birth of its first Crab-eating
Macaque. Baby "Macca" was born on the 11th of December 2010 to proud parents
Lulu and Merlin.
Macca currently spends his days close to mum but is slowly learning to run and
climb all by himself...
Breeding Tassie Devils...
Hunter Valley Zoo is hoping to breed their pair of Tasmanian Devils in 2011.
Captive breeding programs are essential to the continued existance of Devils into the future. Without
them wild population may become extinct in as few as 20 years due to the Devil Facial Tumour Disease that is
decimating their numbers.
This unique cancer spreads through biting and has already seen an 80% drop in wild Devil numbers.
Hunter Valley Zoo will be contributing to the back up population of Tasmanian
Devils and helping to maintain these native icons for future generations.
